USS CUNY STUDENT COMMUTER GRANT PILOT PROGRAM PROPOSAL 2024

The CUNY University Student Senate (USS) as part of its initiative to bring #freemetrocards to CUNY students is proposing a Student Commuter Grant Pilot Program. This program highlights ways to provide Metrocards to students based on programs they are part of and affiliated with for free monthly Metrocards.

This document outlines a solution of financial assistance to CUNY students dealing with transportation challenges in their daily lives. This is a first step and captures population based on data USS was able to collect. Please see the PDF document link with detailed information, eligibility criteria and proposal outline.

USS has successfully advocated to include part of this proposal into the CUNY City Budget Asks. This is a big win for students as it highlights for the first time in years, a synergy of interests between CUNY administration and students.

As Negotiations for the City Budget continue, we call on all students, faculty, staff, community and advocacy partners to include this proposal as part of their advocacy efforts this legislative session, to ensure tremendous progress in the cause of #freemetrocards for CUNY Students.
