Announcement: Formation of Ad Hoc Committee on Campus Climate

As the elected student body representing the voices of all 225,000 CUNY students, The University Student Senate (USS) has been actively engaging to protect CUNY Students. The University Student Senate (USS) is announcing the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee on Campus Climate. This committee has been created in response to recent events and concerns raised by the university student community, including student protests, decisions made by CUNY Central, police involvement, and student arrests.

Committee Charter

Objective:
The primary objective of the Ad Hoc Committee on Campus Climate is to thoroughly investigate and reconstitute the facts surrounding recent student protest activities, the involvement of law enforcement, and the decisions made by CUNY Central that have impacted our campus community.

Responsibilities:

  • Fact-Finding: Conduct a comprehensive investigation into the recent student protests, including the reasons behind the protests, the nature of the protests, and the response by university authorities.
  • CUNY Central Decisions: Review and analyze the decisions made by CUNY Central that have affected the campus climate, and assess their impact on students and the broader university community.
  • Police Involvement: Examine the role of law enforcement in the recent protests, including instances of police involvement and any subsequent student arrests.
  • Reporting: Compile the findings into a detailed report that presents a clear and accurate account of the events and decisions.
  • Recommendations: Based on the findings, recommend courses of action to address the issues identified, improve campus climate, and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

The committee will consist of representatives from various sectors of the university community, including:

  • USS members
  • CUNY Students

The committee is expected to complete its investigation and present its report, during the Summer 2024 session.
